He was a native of Plasterco, Virginia, and the son of the late William Montgomery and Mary Helen Moore Boyd. Bill graduated from Glade Spring High School and attended Emory and Henry College. He was a member of Munsey United Methodist Church for 34 years and a member of the New Dimensions Sunday School Class. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bill retired in 1998 from American General Life Insurance, formerly National Life and Accident Insurance. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Life Underwriters Association. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and an avid golfer. His favorite sports team was the Lady Vols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Boyd and Jon Eric Boyd;and one sister, Doris Keebler. Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Widener Boyd of Johnson City;children, Tim Boyd of Atlanta, Ga., Julie McTier and husband, Kenny, of Johnson City, and Jill Larkin and husband John, of Knoxville;11 grandchildren Tara, Caleb, Taylor, Hope, Mitchell, Savannah, Christian, Scarlett, Corey, Bianca, and Nolan;sisters, Wilda DeBusk of Knoxville;and Janice Boydston of Chattanooga;brothers, Thomas Milton Boyd and wife, Sandra, of Elizabethton and John Glenn Boyd of Kingsport;and 12 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service for William Leonas Boyd will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Reverend Michael Lester officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
