HI, John Boyd came from ireland about 1848 and I don't know if he came through Canada or Boston or Ellis Island but the 1850 census shows him in Enosburg with a family name raudel (believe it is Randell). There may be a connection to the family as he obviously stayed with them for a while after coming and then opened a taning mill on a river in Franklin to tan leathers. that's from Franklin records of mills and his statement he was a shoemaker. It's possible he had a brother named James as they are about the same age, John (My greagreatgreat grandfather) and James. I do know that my John was a Presbyterian as were my grandparents and Protestant. Harriet Cady William Boyd was born in Belmont County, Ohio in 1895. Belmont County is right on the border w/West Virginia. James Boyd was born in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland in 1834 and moved to Belmont County when he was 10 when his family fled Ireland during the potato famine. He would eventually go on to be a mayor of Omaha and a governor of Nebraska. The possibility is very strong that he was related to William Boyd and that William Boyd is descended from James Boyd’s father (Irish families were typically very large, Protestant or Catholic). James Boyd’s family would have most likely been Protestant and Presbyterian. They would also most likely have been descended from the Scottish Protestants that began colonizing Northern Ireland in the late 1500s.
