There are quite a number of both C of I and Presbyterian Churches in Ballymoney. It has only been in the last few weeks that I have begun to think of those Boyd Branches that might not be Presbyterian but Church of Ireland. The Boyds would have been Catholic in Scotland until the 5th Lord Boyd, Robert Boyd. Although he was a "Councillor" to Mary Queen of Scots during period of imprisonment in England and 30 named Boyds fought for her at Langside in 1568, I have found a source that said that he was a Protestant and had visited Knox the night before Knox died. It seemed that from this point that the Heads of the Clan became strong Presbyterians but we seem to have "several" Branches that were other religions such as Church of Ireland/England, Quaker, and Huguenot. So it is the origins of each of these three groups that we need to look at and where they might have come from, and which family branches formed of these groups. I will try to make a start to a list this week. I think that they were both Church of Ireland? Can you find your note book form 2007 in which you copied the Boyd/Kennedy Grave at Dunluce? There seems to be a NUMBER OF BOYD BRANCHES in Ireland ( that appear to have come form Scotland) that were Church of Ireland or Church of England in Scotland that we need to identify. I will have to do some research and start a list to post to the Boyd list so that others can add to it.
