Down, Ireland), d 29/10/1804, bu Little Britain churchyard, New Windsor, Co., NY, m / /176x (Church, New Windsor), Miss Smith, dau of and (nee ) Smith, b / /173x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- m 2ndly / /176x (church, etc), Eleanor Cockle, dau of John and Ruth (nee ) Cockle, b / /174x ( ), d / /18xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- Some of our Boyd cousins might like to go to the Brooklyn Museum, NYC, NY to see a portrait of the above Robert Boyd. He was a blacksmith during the War of Independence near New Windsor, NY and made guns for Washington’s Army. He appears to have been first president/chairman of the NY General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen in 1785. When some of his descendants found out that he was a blacksmith, they would not provide any more data on this family to W. P. Boyd for his book of 1912. However, research over the last decade has indicated that this faaily came form Ballyhalbert, County Down, Ireland and that this might indicate that they are descendants of Colonel David Boyd , the natural son of the fifth Lord Boyd. He may have been among those American inventors who developed "rifling". And a great contributor to the cause. The portrait kind of looks like you, Mike. I want to know more about this fellow.
