Barry and others these are the details that I have on this Robert Boyd R1 Robert Boyd, b / /1734 (town, Co. Down, Ireland), d 29/10/1804, bu Little Britain churchyard, New Windsor, Co., NY, m / /176x (Church, New Windsor), Miss Smith, dau of and (nee ) Smith, b / /173x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- m 2ndly / /176x (church, etc), Eleanor Cockle, dau of John and Ruth ) Cockle, b / /174x ( ), d / /18xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- - Details? The Will below would suggest that Robert Boyd, married Elinor Cockle and had four children by him. While the 1990 DAR Patriot Index shows this Robert Boyd married to “Robert, Jr.: b 1734 IR d 10-29-1804 NY m --- Smith PS NY”[USA dates format]. While W. P. Boyd in his 1912 book outling this family only mentions the wife Miss Smith. So do we have two Robert Boyd’s or one that married twice? If so, which was the first and second wife? - He erected the iron and scythe works situated upon the creek, one mile below Newburgh. He inherited the estate of his uncle Samuel (Q1) and moved to New York city in 1800, where he held the office of sheriff. On p 361 it says his family consisted of six children, but on p 362 it has the following “the other children of Robert we have no record of.” This last comment suggests additional children who might have died young and therefore disregarded by the person who passed the information onto W. P. Boyd. >From an Email message from Chris Tami, 128 Cornell Ave., Rahway, NJ 07065 USA [email protected] on 23 October 1998 it has the following details:- Abstracts of Wills, Vol XIII, 1784-1786 Page 261.-- In the name of God, Amen. He may have been among those American inventors who developed "rifling". And a great contributor to the cause. The portrait kind of looks like you, Mike. I want to know more about this fellow.
