    1. Re: [BOYD] Mary Boyd, born abt 1834, possibly in New York or Scotland
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: tc2000_803 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.boyd/7223.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is what I know: Mary Boyd married Benjamin John Fillmore. - In one publication, History of Kane county ILL, Volume 3, page 734, it is stated that Mary Boyd is a native of Herkimer County, NY and her family moved to Chicago in 1838. - It states in that publication they married in 1854. - It states in that publication that she died in April 1901. - In another publication, The Past and Present of Kane, ILL, page 709, it verifies the marriage date, also giving the month/day as Dec 24. It also states she is from Chicago. In both publications it states that Benjamin is from Canada, gives the same birth date and occupation. They had the following children: Willard Eugene (1856-1927) Rosie (1859-1942) Lillian Amelia (1861-1902) Osbert Henry (Ossie) (1864-1929) Mary Esther (Mamie) (1867-) I have 2 censuses on Lillian; 1) 1870, Virgil, Kane ILL that says Benjamin is from New Brunswick, Canada and that Mary is from NY. Can't read the handwriting too well. 2) 1880, Virgil, Kane ILL that also says Benjamin is from New Brunswick, Canada and that Marys mother is from New York and her father is from Scotland. I have not found any collaborating data that verifies the prescence of any Boyd families in Herkimer County NY As far as the other information, I found an immigration list for a Mary Boyd immigrating in 1834 from Ireland to New York and that she was 5 yrs old at that time. For the life of me I can't find that link again or I would post it. (I used the word 'may' because that states a definite and as I am finding out, there is a whole lot of gray area to this genealogy stuff.) I hope this clears up the confusion, I apologize for being so vague. Thanks for the help! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
