    1. Re: [BOYD] Boyd cousin needs a hand - HOW TO STORE YOUR DOCUMENTS
    2. Mike and Phyllis, It might be a good idea to get an inexpensive digital camera, and a large external hard drive, then "copy" everything that is still a bit legible with the camera, storing the images on the hard drive. A lot of photos can be taken each hour, to the point where it is often faster to take the photos than load up a copier with pages to be copied and paper to reprint them on. Even though the paper today will copy better than 30 to 40 years ago, most printer / copier paper is still not of archival quality. Once as many pages are photographed as possible, then you can go back and get new versions of the missing pages. Patricia In a message dated 1/15/2014 6:14:27 P.M. Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: This will be a problem for quite a number of researchers who copied material in the 1970's and 1980's. Especailly when copy material from microfilm. microfishe. The photocopying paper of that period, I understand oxidise when light hits it and turns block after a period. When I found that out about 20 years ago, I recopied these pages through a normal photocopier, which seems to work. So are there anyone out there who can provide advise on who best to store the data that we each collect. Phyllis, you MAY BE ABLE to copy these pages with a normal copier, but use the light exposure. Although they sound like the have gone to far to be saved. Any other SUGGESTIONS Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS -----Original Message----- From: Lauren Boyd McLachlan Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2014 9:57 AM To: Boyd List Subject: [BOYD] Boyd cousin needs a hand Phyllis Riviere<https://www.facebook.com/phyllis.riviere?viewer_id=591714289> posted to Facebook: "Help! I've been trying to organize my genealogy findings from 1970, and put my direct line into a big notebook. I've found census forms which have turned black and are unreadable. I guess I need archival paper and look everything up again. I have 11 surnames, and information about each branch. Are there different qualities of archival papers, and should I copy everything, even the ones which are not census forms? I have BIG folders of lateral branches also, but right now I want to preserve my direct line for my descendants. I'm 91 years old, so I had better hurry!" I am wondering if there are any on this Boyd list who are willing to help Phyllis. She's in Connecticut, but there may be a way to help her, even long distance. Ideas?
