Harriet When and where in County Londonderry can you find your John Boyd. I know that a Boyd family came from "Argyllshire" in 1612 to Londonderry City, with the Smith and Jamison families. However, I do not know if they came from the Boyds opposite Fort William or were some other Boyds who might have come from Ayrshire to southern part of Arygllshire - such as Kintyre or some of the island near by. Daryl This Captain James Boyd was a the time of the Siege of Londonderry City in 1689. Some 40 years before your family. He was also killed DURING THE SIEGE, SO IF HE HAD FAMILY THEY HAD TO BE BORN BEFORE THEN. We are trying to find a Captain James Boyd of Ireland, who is said to be the father of a James Boyd of Berwick, Maine; a William Boyd who landed in Rhode Island rather than wait to get off at Boston, MA and the family of a John Boyd Shelburne Falls, Franklin Co., MA. All arrived on a unknown ship in about 1720 from Ireland. This Captain killed in Londonderry SEEMS TO BE A POSSIBLE LINK "BUT" we need more details about his family and where he came from in Ireland. The quotation said he was "Killed in his house on Shipquay St". However this might have been "his" or the "family's" City House and they had an Estate somewhere else in Ireland. Boyd Grey. Do you know if there are any "records" of who owned what houses within Londonderry City in 1689? That might provide some guide as to which family this Captain James Boyd belonged to. Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2014 11:27 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BOYD] [IRL-ANTRIM] Boyd Persons at the "Siege of Derry" That must be the captain my grandfather spoke of.
