>From The Boyd family, by Arthur S. Boyd, jr. 1924 book, page 23, it says “Who Captain James married is not known, but he had at least three sons: James (2) William (3), and John (4).” Arthur Boyd, deals with the family of the son James Boyd and only mentions that James had the two brothers, William of Rhode Island and John of Boston, MA. While Richard G. Boyd of Mt Morris, MI in his book A History of the Boyd Family, 1993, outlines the family of “A” John Boyd – whom I think claims is the son of a Captain James Boyd. However, if I recall correctly, there is no proof or data that shows that the Arthur Boyd’s John Boyd is the same person as Richard Boyd’s John Boyd. But I do accept that we have a John Boyd, who married Margaret Long and lived in Shelburne Falls, Franklin County, MA, family whose father is most likely to be a James Boyd. Both books CLAIM that the father of these three sons, was a Captain James Boyd of Ireland who was the first Earl of Kilmarnock, William Boyd’s son. It is known that the Earl’s son James Boyd, was buried in May 1702 at Old Lenzie Church in East Dumbartonshire. However, in the invitation to his funeral, there was no mention of “a wife or children”. Arthur Boyd only provides this information on the birth of the three sons:- “2. JAMES BOYD, son of James Boyd (1), was born in Ireland about 1700, as he came to America with his brothers William and John about 1720.” This birth date for James Boyd, the son, is the date given for the three sons in this book by Arthur Boyd. If I recall, from previous posting to the Boyd Net site the dates often used for these three brothers is:- James Boyd, born about 1700; William Boyd, born about 1703; John Boyd, born about 1705. Do any members have any further details on these three brothers? While data for the James Boyd’s children is also a little thin to see the children were born in Ireland or the New England area. Hopefully, the male Boyd’s in both the family of James Boyd of Berwick, Maine and John Boyd of Shelburne Falls, Franklin Co., MA will have undertaken their DNA test to the 67 marker level to be able to say if the two family are ACTUALLY brothers as suggested by these two books.
