Dr David Boyd of Cambridgeshire, England, can you contact me privately on this DNA information (as I can’t find your Email at present) Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS From: Brendan Boyd Sent: Friday, February 14, 2014 9:17 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Boyds Hi Mike, My name is Brendan Boyd and I was born in the Parish of Lacken, near Killala, Co Mayo, Ireland in 1951. I can trace my ancestry back to my great grandfather, a James Boyd who was born in 1836 in County Sligo (Parish of Skreen/Dromard). He later (approx 1850ish - Famine times) moved to Lacken Parish near Killala, Co Mayo. Our Boyd line have been of Catholic persuasion back to James at least. In trying to trace my ancestry further I did a YDNA test with www.familytreedna.com. This was prompted by a suggestion from a Boyd family whose ancestors originated in Drumcliffe, Co Sligo but emigrated to Canada in the mid 1800s. They have an extensive Website = http://sligoboyds.bobboyd.ca/main.htm. regards, Brendan Boyd, Tully, Clogherevagh, Co Sligo, Ireland
Hello Brendan, We are most assuredly cousins! Mike, he is one of what I have been calling the Sligo Boyd. I do not yet know where they tie in to the genetic tree but they are related in time to the Boyd of Airth, Sterlingshire, though with a unique differentiation that implies a possibly even older divergence. It never occurred to me that they were catholic! Can we show that they were Jacobite? Were there Boyd in the 1713-15 raising of the Jacobite standard? I have the Sligo Boyd starting with a James Boyd b.about 1716 possibly Dublin, a graduate of Trinity college, a lawyer by trade. Anybody have any ideas as to his father? David and Brendan, were any of these Sligo Boyd in the milling or weaving trade? Could this family possibly be related to the family of Augustus Boyd (later of Dansen Hall)?
