    3. Andrew I have a family of James Boyd and Elizabeth Cuthbertson, who were married in 1714 and are said to be of Rowallan Mill. I have just checked but they do not have a son John Boyd. I am sure that I have another Boyd family that said they were Millers at Rowallan Mill for 5 generations (of course, I now can't find that family for you.) Parts of the old mill is still there, as it is only a mile from the farm B&B that I stay bat when I go to Kilmarnock, but I assume that a new house has been built on this site Mrs Mary Stevenson (191 Redwood Street, Blenheim, Marlborough New Zealand) said that Jean Boyd's (U2/V3) family were millers at Rowallan Mill, Fenwick for 5 generations before coming to New Zealand (It is not clear if the count begins with Jean or her father John [T3/U2] ). If the latter, assume all five generations from Robert Boyd (Q1) are buried at Fenwick. [Need to check with Beverley O'Neill if she has additional records.] - whom I corresponded with in 1993. I understand that he sons run a cafe and perhaps a winery some miles south of Blenheim.) While searching for the parent in this Family Chapters I found this family William Boyd married Margaret Steell on 2 Feb. 1726 at Fenwick, Batch # 7101816, serial # 63 However, these parent would be too young to have an son that was married about 1743. I was able to find the following children:- John Boyd, Bapt. 1727; James Boyd, Bapt 1732; Agnes Boyd, Bapt 1735. - From 1994 IGI for the UK:- John BOYD (M)............ (get Email from the East Ayrshire Council website) They may have some records on this case or the Boyds of Rowallan Mill? MY GUESS IS THAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT TWO SEPARATE BOYD FAMILIES - ONE IN IRVINE AND A SECOND AT ROWALLAN MILL, FENWICK. Mike Boyd -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Boyd Sent: Friday, February 14, 2014 11:23 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [BOYD] John Boyd, Sr., Milner at Rowallan Miln, 1785 Greetings Cousins, In my research into my ancestor John Boyd (b. 1739 Kilmarnock, emigrated to America 1770, d. 1798 Philadelphia, who is the same John Boyd of Kinderhook who married Christyntje Van Deusen in Claverack, New York in 1780), I came across a reference to a lawsuit between my John Boyd and John and Hugh Parker in Kilmarnock. (Dobson, David, Scottish-American Court Records, 1733-1783: "BOYD, JOHN. John Boyd, writer in Irvine then a merchant in New York, V. John & Hugh Parker, merchants in Kilmarnock, 6 Aug. 1778. (CS16.1.174)"). I have discovered that I can only obtain these actual records in person at the National Records of Scotland Archives in Edinburgh. In searching the National Records of Scotland Archives on-line, I found and was able to obtain a copy of records of another lawsuit, this time in 1785, again between a John Boyd and John and Hugh Parker, merchants in Kilmarnock. The documents are in the National Records of Scotland, Court of Session: Bill Chamber Processes, Old Series 1670-1852. The Reference is CS271/53181, Title is John Boyd (Boid) v John & Hugh Parker, 1785. These document a lawsuit against John Boyd, Jr., Rowallan Miln by John and Hugh Parker in Kilmarnock for a debt of 20 pounds sterling (approximately $3000 USD in today's dollars). Included is a guarantee to the Court of Session of payment of the debt by John Boyd Sr., Milner in Rowallan Miln, or his estate or heirs. Two signatures are affixed: first, John Boyd, in a somewhat shakey hand, and another John Boyd below, in a steady hand. I am thinking that these two John Boyds in Rowallan Miln are not likely to be the same individuals as my ancestor John Boyd (1739 -1798) and his father, who has been identified as John Boyd, Maltster in Irvine in 1761. However, some doubt remains, and without further information on the John Boyds of Rowallan Miln in 1785, I can't exclude that they aren't the same people as my john Boyds. Any information is greatly appreciated. -Andrew Boyd Seattle, WA ==================== House of Boyd will be present in the Clan Village at the 700th Anniversary Celebration of the Battle of Bannockburn, June 2014.
