Thank you Ray for these website. This would suggest that there is a MIGRATION PATH of Ballymena to Newberry Co., SC and then to Randolph Co., ILL. In the family of John Boyd (bc 1630) and Janet Logan of Ballymena, County Antrim, that links to the Magill's with the marriage of Sarah Boyd and George Frederic Magill, Sarah's mother was a Grace Hartley, who can trace her family back to Hugh Montgomery (Earl of Mont Alexander) of the Ards Peninsular in 1606. His Hugh was a 5th or 5th cousin to Colonel David Boyd who also settled there in 1606.. I know that a branch of the Magill's moved to SC (and there is a book on this branch). So did the "three" families move together from Ballymena, to SC and to Randolph Co., ILL? The "David Boyd of Randolph Co., ILL" MIGHT BE THE GRANDSON of John Boyd (bc 1760) who married Susan Neally - David Brown Boyd?. They came to SC about 1807 Hopefully this will allow all three families to follow this migration. I don't know if this is the same David Boyd referred to, but this David Brown Boyd lived in Sparta, Randolph County, Illinois in the 1860s: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=katheetyson&id=I00722&style=TABLE He moved there from Newberry Dist., S.C., and his father Thomas Samuel Boyd was born in Ballymena, Antrim, N. Ireland, the son of John Boyd and Susan Nealy according to this: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=katheetyson&id=I00722 http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=Search&includedb=&lang=en&ti=&surname=Boyd&stype=Exact&given=David&bplace=Randolph%2C+IL&byear=&brange=0&dplace=&dyear=&drange=0&mplace=&myear=&mrange=0&father=&mother=&spouse=&skipdb=&period=All&submit.x=Search David Magill who married Anna Kealy in 1863: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=earllyn72&id=I19745 I'm wondering if he could be related to David Boyd Magill from Antrim who lived in Chester Co., S.C.: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=tedmarr&id=I16504 and traced back to John Boyd and Janet Logan: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=tedmarr&id=I16504&style=TEXT But the only David Magill that I find among nephews of this David Boyd Magill (whose mother was Sarah Boyd) apparently died in Antrim: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=tedmarr&id=I16466 This David Boyd Magill had a son James Robert Magill who married my great-great-grandmother's first cousin Jane Baxter Fraser, supposed to descend from "the true Lord Lovat," so these are the Magills that I always associate with Boyds in my mind. Another Boyd family in Sparta, Randolph Co., Ill. was a branch of my Boyds from Knockavaddy, Dungannon, N. Ireland. An ancestral uncle of mine was William Boyd with wife Margaret Lyons who moved from Tyrone, N. Ireland, to South Carolina. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=lawrence2000&id=I1464 Their sons Samuel and William lived in Randolph Co., IL. with their sister Jane Boyd who married Robert Weir (Wier). Another son, John, was probably the father of Col. Joseph T. Boyd of Lawrence Co. and/or Beaver Co., Pennsylvania.
