[Lived: ] R5 Patrick Boyd, b 1730, d 11/3/1810, bu Castlebar, m 17xx, wife unknown, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Described on his Tombstone as " a man of profound mathematical knowledge, of devotion and integrity". S1 It was probably his son Charles Boyd, who aged 17 entered Trinity College Dublin, 3 July 1967 (this likely a misprint and should be 1767), described as "son of Patrick Boyd, armiger". As this family has a son James Boyd born in 1725, the James Boyd of Sligo could not be part of this family of Crosspatrick - UNLESS AN ELDER BROTHER TO JOHN BOYD [Q1] had settled on an estate there. C) There are male Boyd descendants in Australia of this family from Crosspatrick, who are the Australian Artist family of Arthur Boyd and his brothers. Some other members of this family have been on this list previously, but I do not know if any of the male Boyds have have undertaken the DNA best to compare the two families. D) Certainly members of the Crosspatrick Boyds went to Trinity Collage. I did copy the Boyd who went to Trinity collage on one of my visits, but during the trip I lost the pages. Perhaps they have a website of those people who have graduated which might tell you if any of the Sligo or Mayo Boyd went to Trinity. The Boyd Family of Crosspatrick, said that htey come form a John Boyd, who in 1672 was Dean of the Guild in Edinburgh. This Boyd is said to have had no male children. But his home was at Kipps, just south of Linlthgow, which is not to far from Airth, which is 20 miles further west. I hope this will help this discussion Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS -----Original Message----- From: Barry Boyd Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2014 1:14 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BOYD] Fw: Boyds of County Sligo Hello Brendan, We are most assuredly cousins! Mike, he is one of what I have been calling the Sligo Boyd. I do not yet know where they tie in to the genetic tree but they are related in time to the Boyd of Airth, Sterlingshire, though with a unique differentiation that implies a possibly even older divergence. It never occurred to me that they were catholic! Can we show that they were Jacobite? Were there Boyd in the 1713-15 raising of the Jacobite standard? I have the Sligo Boyd starting with a James Boyd b.about 1716 possibly Dublin, a graduate of Trinity college, a lawyer by trade. Anybody have any ideas as to his father? David and Brendan, were any of these Sligo Boyd in the milling or weaving trade? Could this family possibly be related to the family of Augustus Boyd (later of Dansen Hall)?
