Thank you to all that have replied. I have made a note that it might be a mis-spelling for Ballymena but added Margaret's variation of Ballymenagh. All these areas had plenty of Boyd families over a very long time. So that will point in both ways for future reserchers. When I get a chance, I will have to search the Boyd families I have for Ballymena and see if they have any William Boyds that have disappeared in hte mid 1700's. Mike, If I visited you in Oz and someone asked me where I was from, do you think I would tell them I was from the townland of Drumbuoy? Course not, who on earth would know where Drumboy was. I'd say I was from Lifford, the nearest large town. In fact, I might even say I was from Derry as I bet not many Aussies have even heard of Lifford. Ditto these Boyds and Ballymena. They probably meant the big town of Ballymena... but probably were NOT actually from the big town of Ballymena! Happens all the time when I am researching.
