    3. John It is interesting that your Boyd family went to Ontario via New York City. There are the records for Ellis Island - which I think begins in about 1890's - but I can't recall what the previous centre of entry was called prior to that. So perhaps some of our New Yorker cousins can tell us about what passenger records are available for this port of entry? Passenger lists are spotty. Nobody could come directly to Ontario. There were a number of ports of entry since we had several separate colonies that were not united until 1867. In addition to Halifax and Quebec City, Saint John NB and Montreal were popular. In addition, many folks came via the U.S. My Boyd ancestor came to Ontario via New York.
