    1. [BOYD] Any Boyd going to D-Day beaches this Summer in France
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. With D-Day being 70 years ago, I assume that a number of our USA, Canadian and UK cousins will go to the D-Day beaches this year. I under this area is close to Brittany where the Boyd ancestors came from. So if you are going to be in this area for D-Day anniversary, COULD YOU take an extra few days to look in Brittany. Alan Ftiz Flaad, who married Eveline De Hesdin, Thank you Mike Boyd

    3. Mike, Sorry, I must take issue with this. I believe we have conclusively shown what the DNA confirms. Alan FitzVlad had nothing to do with our common origin but rather Avilina's second husband Robert FitzWalter son of Gautier de Caen, a companion of the Conquerer, who did indeed come from Normandy and not Brittany was the father of the Boyd. The court of the exchequer at Caen, built by William after the conquest to house the treasury does indeed still stand in the ancient region of Calvados. This is why history confounds "Simon father of the Boyd/ Simon fitzAlan (there was no such moniker)/ and Simon deCalvados/ Simon deCaen and also Simon deChesney. When we understand that these Simon's are all the same person, we begin to see the picture of him as a just and noble knight in the glory days of chivalry who traveled in Scotland, England, and mainland Normandy, building churches/abbeys and amassing castled properties. I would also point out the other connections this provides to another noble line that we sometimes forget about. Beside being the half brother by mother to Walter fitzAlan progenitor of the Stewart dynasty, our Simon was also the half brother by father of William deChesney by his first wife Sybil deChesney who received his mothers inheritance and took her name and remained at Horesford in Norfolk and served king Stephen in the families traditional capacity as sheriff of Norfolk/Suffolk. Just how many buildings this Simon fitzRobert/ deCaen/ deCalvados/ deChesney was involved in the founding of, history has yet to make a list. This family was particularly familiar to the Benedictine order of Cluniac builder monks, in whom we can follow the life of our Simon as they constructed several great buildings besides the great court of the exchequer at Caen in Normandy during his lifetime, many of which he set his seal on the charter of, among them are: Paisley, Renfrew, Abroath, and Kilwinning in Scotland; Horsford castle, Thetford, Norwich, and Castle Acre priories (possible others) in England; Following the trail of this order of builder monks through the lifetime of Simon leads us straight through Scotland and out to the Isle of Bute, called at that time in the native tongue Eilean Bhòid, where I am sure history will soon begin to record that our Simon and his son Robert built the foundation of what was to become Rothesey Castle while in the service of the Steward while he (both Alan and Walter) was absent on crusade, thus the moniker that we use today Boyd, derived from Robert deBoyt, a Franco/ Latin transliteration of Robert from the isle of Bute This has nothing to do with the 70th anniversary of D-Day, but we must stop propelling the falsehood that we descend from fitzFlad. 3. Barry and others I was not too sure about how close the D-Day beaches were to the area of Brittany where the Boyd Ancestors came from. I was assuming that a number of Boyd ancestors might so to this area and I would like to see if they can find out any more about the family of Robert FitzWalter of Caen. So this is why I have linked to two events and hope that some people can do some research in this area.
