In the above book it said:- “By Walter Stewart the lands of the barony were granted chiefly to the old rentallers, who thus became owners in fee of the properties on which they had resided. .. Among rentallers of noble rank are found successive generations of the families of Maxwell of Nether Pollock, Boyd of Kilmarnock, Colquhon of Elen, Stewart of Minto & Hamilton of Aikenhad It then goes onto list two pages of other names which do not include any of the above five families. I know that Boyds lived in “Glasgow” long before James VI reign, but I have not yet found any Boyd living across the river in Govan Parish..
