I have the above Samuel Boyd as being a tailor by Trade. According to W. P. Boyd’s book of 1912, this Samuel Boyd came to New York City in 1740. W. P. Boyd did not say which ship or from what Port that this Samuel left Ireland from. So did he travel by himself? That would be usual in this period? So did he go with other Boyds or did he go with “a group” from Ballyhalbert to New York City. (Hear I am thinking that someone might have “organised”a group of tradesmen for the Ards Peninsular to go to New York City to work for them or members of their Church. For the Down Net list – did any other families migrate in 1740? For the Boyd Net list – did you have any Boyd families migrate to NYC in 1740? This Samuel Boyd in about 1753 to 1756, organised for three of this brothers families and his sister, Mary Boyd who married Mr Waugh to come to NY. At the time of his Will in 1757, he left a farm to each sibling in Orange County, NY. This suggesting that he had some wealth. In 1752, he had a Power of Attorney for Thomas Gelston, a Portaferry shipowner. So he may have been involved in other types of business besides being a tailor. Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane
