Hi, all. You were so helpful last time I needed help. Well, I have another. Susan (maybe Susannah) was born 30 September 1789 in Chatham County North Carolina USA. She married a man named James Teague in about 1809. In 1815, they moved to Butler County Ohio. Her husband died. She remarried, this time to John Beadle who died in 1832. She died August 28 1877. She's (probably) not a Boyd, but she's my direct ancestor. I don't know her maiden name. Can you help?
Robert 1) Did any of her children have the name Boyd in their Christian names? 2) You may also need to join the Chatham County, NC rootsweb.net list for a few weeks to "advertise" this family of yours. It would also be worth joining the Teague and Beadle rootsweb.com Net list as well to see what those lists might produce for you. This way your query is on their records. Then go back in 3 or 6 months time and either repeat your query. Or if you find out more data before then, re-join and post your new information. 3) Do you know which town in 1789, she was born in? 4) From the 1790 US Census there are these two Boyd families in Chatham county, NC -----Original Message----- From: Robert Boyd via Sent: Sunday, November 1, 2015 7:35 AM To: boyd@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOYD] Help with a maiden name Hi, all. Maiden Name; always a challenge 1. Did you view the marriage application? If so who else is listed? Often a woman's father or head of family will post the bond. most commonly someone from her family. 2. look for naming pattern particularly if you can isolate a ethnic or country dissension. Example first male child; first name of paternal grandfather and middle name the maternal maiden name 3 I am sure that you have looked at census, not only your gal, but those in close proximity and remain so through many census. Unfortunately this is too old for listing of household members where you might find an elderly person listed as 'Mother' or 'M-in-L'. 4 look to church records, posting of bands if there was well established church. Follow the records if the church was consumed or moved. 5 look at probates and land deeds. She may have come into an inheritance and is listed in a probate or Will. If you are really lucky, she did and the selling of the land required her signature. In that way you will find all members of the inheritance along with husbands and wives due to dower rights. 6 Look for the probate of her 1st husband's Will / property. An account of his death. 8 Did they have children? If so, his children may be named in her deceased husband's father's Will / probate; if they were minors, she may be mentioned. 7 what other families went from Chatham County, NC to Butler County, OH. Often migrations are done as families groups and you may find some things there. 8 what families were on the Chatham County NC 1790 census? Any given names pop out as her children's? Any of those family in Butler County, OH? 9 Where is her first husband buried? I doubt it was a churchyard, but if so, again look to church records or announcements. 10 was there a newspaper in the area at the time of her 1st husband' demise or even her marriage to the second husband. The latter may mention her maiden name. 11 was her first husband a veteran? Look for a pension application. Hopefully, somewhere in the above thoughts, you might find something helpful.
