    1. [BOYD] The family of William Blanton Boyd (1737-1809) of near Maddens Station, Laurens County, South Carolina, who married Margaret Evaline Cochrane in Ireland
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. I recently got a query about this family who is known to be buried on his farm near Maddens Station, Laurens County, South Carolina. There are two origins given for this family. The first is that he came form Glastry townland, County Down on the Ards Peninsular, Ireland. The Second that he came from County Londonderry. There were Boyds in Glastry and these cane be trace back to Colonel David Boyd who came to the Ards Peninsular in 1606, but form what is known of his family, I can’t see any likely matches with any known part of that family. While there are plenty of Boyd families in County Londonderry in Londonderry City Limavady and around Coleraine that this William Blanton Boyd might belong to. T1? William Blanton Boyd, b 14/3/1737 ( , Ireland?), d 10/12/1809 ( , Laurens Co., SC), bu on family farm, near Maddens Station, Laurens County, South Carolina [a], m / /175x (church, town, county, etc), Margaret Evaline Cochrane, dau of and (nee ) Cochrane/Cochran, b / /173x ( , Londonderry, Ireland), d / /18xx ( ), bu on family farm, near Maddens Station, Laurens County, South Carolina [a] , USA, and had issue:- [Lived: of Sandy Branch, Laurens County, SC. [1] ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] The Leonardo Andrea Collection, Univ SC Caroliniana Library Page Number: 256, 257 and 258. It is quite “strange” that in 1737 someone would have two Christian names. Some sources say that he came to South Carolina in 1772 with Rev William Martin. It is known that two “William” Boyd families came with this migration but not it if any William Blanton Boyd was either of them. Then some other records say that he was married in South Carolina in 1770. Thus suggesting that he arrived in America before 1772 and most likely came down from PA or Maryland along the GReat Wagon Road to South Carolina. So have these people researching this family “confused” two William Boyd families and this has been included in hte various websites on this family? If you belong to or think that you belong to this family I would like to hear form you Mike Boyd Chairman \Historical Committee House of Boyd Society ch 11/559
