It said that John Boyd (b 1746), 7th child of Patrick Boyd, the first son of George and Isabella Boyd of Compass, who went to Halifax County Virginia, was a member of the Donelson Party that went to Nashville, TN in 1778. (If I recall, Nashville is in Davidson County, TN.) In the DAR 1990 Patriot Index this John Boyd is listed as being a private in a Virginia Unit and being born in Virginia in 1745 and died in TN in 5 April 1895 and married to a Irma R. ???? Do any members of this list know the “history” of the Donelson Party of 1778? How many people were involved, where did they come from, why did they decided to settle in Nashville, TN – which in those days was in the middle of no where. How were they going to get their farm produce to “a market”? I am thinking that white men did not then know how to get to the Mississippi River! Is that correct? There are a number of Boyd families that seem to have settled in both Davidson and Williamson counties in the late 1700’s. So there will be a very good chance of mixing these families. Thank you for your assistance Mike Boyd
