    3. Where did the Boyds of Springfield, Missouri come from? I am currently working to expand the family of Sempronius Hamilton Boyd. In 1992, I found the Who Was Who in America Historical Volume 1607-1896 Rev. Ed. 1967 and on page 136 it said this about him “Studied Law. Moved to Mo., 1840, to Cal., 1849; prospected for gold, taught school; returned to Mo., 1854; clerk Greene County Court, 1854-56; admitted to bar, 1856, began practice of law, Springfield, Mo.; mayor Springfield, 1856; member US House of Representatives (Emancipationist) from Mo., 38th Congress, 1863-65, (Republican), 41st Congress 1869-71; raised 24th Mo. Infantry during Civil War, served as Colonel; judge 14th Judicial District, 1865; member Republican National Committee 1864-68; a builder and operator S.W. Pacific R.R., 1867-74; operator wagon factory, 1874-76; Minister resident and Consul General to Siam (Appointed By President Harrison), 1890-92.” During the last week, I have been doing some further research on this family and it now tells me his direct line was U1 Sempronius (Pony) Hamilton Boyd, b 28/5/1828 (town, Williamson Co., TN), d 22/6/1894 (Springfield, Greene Co., MO), bu Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, Greene Co., MO , MO., m / /185x (church, town, etc), Margaret Muse McElhaney, dau of and (nee ) McElhaney, b / /1838 ( ), d / /1904 (town, etc), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Details? “Moved to Missouri in 1840; mayor of Springfield in 1856; during the Civil War raised the 24th Missouri Infantry and served as colonel until his election to Congress; elected as an Unconditional Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1865); appointed judge of the court of the fourteenth judicial district in 1865, and member of the Republican National Committee 1864-1868. And his father was T5 Marcus M Boyd, b / /1803 (town, Williamson Co., TN), d 30/11/1866 ( , Springfield, Greene Co., MO), bu , MO, m 15/2/1825 (church, town, Williamson Co., TN), Eliza H. From the above website “Marcus moved his family from Tennessee to Missouri in 1840, settling on a farm near Springfield, Greene County. He was married twice, first to Eliza H Hamilton on Feb 15, 1825 in Williamson Co TN. They were parents of nine children, six were born in Tennessee and the last three in Missouri. Eliza gave birth to 8 sons and one daughter, she died the day her daughter was born on Sep 15 1845. The child was named Martha Tennessee Eliza Boyd, for her mother and grandmother.” Marcus married a second time on May 28, 1846, to Dorinda Cecil Price, daughter of Crabtree Price and Luvinia (Linnie) CECIL. They were the parents of seven children. and his father was S7? William G. Boyd, b / /1770 (town, county, TN), d / /1852 (Montgomery, Montgomery Co., AL), bu , AL., m / /179x (church, town, county, etc), Martha Edmiston, dau of N N and Elizabeth (nee ) Edmundson / Edmiston, b / /1775 (Fincastle, Botetourt County, VA), d 13/1/1843 ( , Williamson County, TN), bu , TN, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Details? William and Martha had 11 children. William might have had a second wife called Rebecca “Boyd”. At this point, I am questioning if this William was actually born in Tennessee in 1770, as I do not think that white men had settled in Tennessee at this time. Or was “East” Tennessee still part of Virginia? So when I was searching my PC for a known William G. Boyd I found one in the Boyd family of Sadsbury, PA who are buried in the same Cemetery as the Rev Adam Boyd at United Congregation of Upper Octorara, Chester Co., PA. T7 William G. Boyd, b 176x ( ), d 18xx ( ), bu , m ? B-1-2-1-7 [Lived: ] S1 Robert Boyd, II, b 173x ( ), d 17xx ( ), bu , m 17xx ( , ), wife not given, dau of and (nee ) ???, b 17xx ( ), d 17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- B-1-2-1 [Lived: ] R2 John Boyd bc 1705 ( ), b 1750 ( ), bu Upper Octorara, PA., m 172x ( , ) wife not given, dau of and (nee ) ??? b 17xx ( ), d 17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- B-1-2 [Lived: ] Q1 Robert Boyd, b 1678 ( ), d 1743 ( ), bu , m 170x ( , ), wife not given, dau of and , b 16xx ( ), d 17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:-B-1 [Lived: ] This information on the structure of Robert Boyd’s family came from the late Professor Howard Jones of Iowa, but I never had time to write to him to get further details on this family. So my QUESTION IS the two William G Boyd’s [S7?] and T7 the same person? Thank you Mike Boyd
