    1. [BOYD] Fw: Book of Belfast Corporation - listing 14 Boyds
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. Norman McFadden from our New Windsor NY research Group, recently posted this website (which I could not navigate) He did not list all 14 Boyd names and their occupations. During my various visits to Belfast since 2004, I have not come across this book but I will put iot on my list of books to find on my next visit to Belfast. I am not sure what other details tis book might provide about each of these Boyds, but there is a very good chance that some members of their family have migrated to the USA at some time. Mike Boyd https://archive.org/stream/townbookofcorpor00belf#page/n0/mode/2up Hi all, I came across the following book it gives the names of the Freeman of Belfast, these men were involved in the running of the Corporation and had certain rights regarding Trade. There are fourteen Boyd's, the search engine would not let me search the Book, so I downloaded it to Kindle, I could then search the Book which unfortunatly is the Google Gook version. The following would be of this most interest to us. JAMES BOYD TAYLOR SWORN FREEMAN 1724 JAMES BOYD BLACKSMITH SWORN FREEMAN 25 AUGUST 1730 ROBERT BOYD SHOEMAKER SWORN FREEMAN AUGUST 1730 (THERE IS BOYD SHOEMAKERS AND TAILORS IN DROMORE CO-DOWN WITH SIMILAR NAMES TO THE BOYDS OF NEW WINDSOR) JAMES BOYD CARMAN 4 FEBRUARY 1727 MARGARET'S FAMILY WERE CARTERS AND CARMEN IN BALLYHALBERT THOMAS GELSTON SUGARBOYLER (A SUGARBOYLER WAS LIKE A MASTER BREWER AND WOULD PROBABLY HAVE OWNED THE BUSINESS, IMPORTING SUGAR PROBABLY VIA NEW YORK. I have long thought that the Boyd's of New Windsor were not direct Descendants of Col. David Boyd, there is no proof of that, and if it were the case we would have found it by now. I think each generation moved on and Belfast would be an obvious place to go, I know this also from my McFadden Family who were Woodturners, who you find in every County in Ulster, and I can connect them. There is also Boyd Tailors in Ballywalter, with a Similar Naming Pattern. It would appear to me that, the Boyds who went to New Windsor probably went because it was to good an opportunity to pass up leaving David any land they had, so the memory of Boyd Blacksmiths in that Area dissappeared, yet there are some clues, the Begg's family whose Margaret's Family married into, were Blacksmiths and Nailers, so maybe it came down a Maternal Line.
