(Paterson's History of Ayr, i. p 394)." The Scots Peerage, vol v, p 152. From A Genealogical Account of the Principal Families in Ayrshire, more particularly in Kyle and Cunninghame, By George Robertson, Vol 111., 1825, p 268, it gives Margaret Chalmer's mother as Annabella, daughter of John Cunningham of Caprington. While her elder sister - Annabella - married James Crawfurd of Auchnames and her younger sister - Marian - married Thomas Kennedy of Ardmillan. M1 Robert Boyd,[1] second Laird of Trochrig, b 1578 (Glasgow, Scot.), d 5/1/1627 (Edinburgh, Scot.), m /5/1611 (Saumur, France), Ann Malvera, dau of Malvera, b 15xx, d 16xx, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - The Thurburns, Contains also the Anderson, Stevenson, Boyd, and Cumming families. From Thurburn's book he would have succeeded in 1627, or after, when M1 died. O1 Robert Boyd, fourth Laird of Trochrig, bc 1633, d 16xx, m late 16xx, Miss Crawford, dau of William Crawford, of Auchinames, b 16xx, d 16xx, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Clarke does not say when he succeeded his father. (This Miss Craufurd is the sister of Archibald Craufurd [P3] in chapter 8/425, whom go back to the Porterfields in chapter 8/423 and to the Sixth Lord Boyd. Robert’s date of birth would have to be questioned, as he was born only 15 years after his father’s birth. P1 John Boyd, fifth Laird of Trochrig, bc 1680 (Scot.), d 17xx, mc 1700, wife unknown, b 16xx, d 17xx, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Clarke does not say when he succeeded his father. Q1 Robert Boyd, sixth Laird Trochrig and ninth Laird of Penkill, bc 1701 (Scot.), d Nov. 1761 (Scot.), m 17xx, wife unknown, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - "He was on the 28 February 1752 served heir male to Alexander Boyd of Penkill who died in 1750. His regular descent from Adam Boyd, the first of Penkill, was at the time proved. He thus became ninth laird of Penkill." Clarke, p 21. His eldest daughter, Ann succeeded him in the Trochrig estate, while his nephew, Spencer Boyd, (Q2/R1), succeeded him in Penkill. Q2 James Boyd, bc 1702 (Scot.), d 17xx[2] (Virginia, USA), m 172x (Virginia, USA), Mary Thatch, dau of Spencer Thatch, b 17xx, d 17xx, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - James was a physician in Virginia, USA. Need to find when he went to USA. In 1999 I was told that this James lived in of King and Queen Co. VA. In these six generations only the succeeding son has been named by both Clark and Cameron and no other sons and daughters given! In this period, it was quite “common” for a family of 10, or more, children to be born to a family, so has anyone found any websites or other sources that might tell us “what children” were born to these Lairds of Trochrig? It would appear from 1691 Heath Tax list for Ayrshire, that none of the children held farms within this Estate and have most likely moved to other parts of Scotland – such as Ayr (town), Irvine, Kilmarnock, Glasgow or Edinburgh. Thank you Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee, HBS [#50] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1]When Robert was studying in France he received a letter from his "kinsman David Boyd from Kilmarnock" Clarke, p 19. Unfortunately it does not say which branch this David came from. [2]Does this mean that James died before Robert (Q1) in 1761?
I forgot to ask if anyone knows if any of these Lairds left a Will that might list some of their children or grandchildre?
