Have you taken your family to your local Scottish Games? It will improve your culture! If you have not, check Dr Google to if there is one held near you during the year and pencil in the dates. (In Dallas in 2012, I did not think that after we had closed the Boyd tent for the day, Barry Boyd and I agreed to watch the log tossing for 5 minutes. It was an hour later when we left. When you go to these Games, make a list of your direct tree and the spouse’s names. The spouse names might have a tent that you can visit and talk to the people in the tent about their Clan history and traditions, etc. If you know locations from where your ancestors came from, look to see if any Clans come from that area, as they might be able to tell you where you can find sources to look up your ancestors and tell you history of the area that will be useful background in your future research. Remember Boyds not only came form Ayrshire, but several other regions in Scotland they were common – such as Gallaway, The Borders, Edinburgh to Stirling, Fifeshire, Perth to Aberdeen, Inverness to Banff, Ardgour in Argyllshire and other areas of Argyllhire opposite Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Glasgow/Lanarkshire. Each of these regions will have a different history, so it is interesting to talk to those Clans to lean more about Scotland. You will also need to look at each Clans Sept Lists to see if Boyd might occur. In 2013 during my US trip, I saw a Donald Clan tent and they had Boyd of North Uist on their list of Septs. I have yet to find out they these Boyds are on their Sept list and how they got to North Uist in hte Outer Hebrides. So in short you will learn a number of unexpected thinks when you go to A Scottish Games and enjoy the various experiences besides the Whiskey tasting. Good gaming Mike Boyd PS Tell the list of your experience.
