From Boyd family Tree, 1991, by Ian Cameron Boyd, page 1 (see Folder 15F # 7A). “William Boyd, born 9 July 1818, Glasgow. In 1841, William was a clerk (1841 Census of Barony). Married Sarah Dunn Macindoe, 31 Aug 1847, Kilmarnock, Scotland (by her father). William was an iron merchant in Glasgow. He suffered business difficulties in 1856, but these were surmounted (former business name: Boyd, Lawson and Co, Iron and Steel Merchants, Glasgow). By 1861, William re-established business under the name of: William Boyd and Co., Ironfounders – at Blythswood Fountary (in partnership with John McIndoe*). “In 1851 Census of Glasgow – 139 West Campbell St., Barony. 1861 Glasgow Census – Res. 212 West Regent St., Blythswood, Iron founder, employing 35 men, 14 boys. 1871 Glasgow Census – Res. 212 West Regent St., Blythswood, Iron Founder, employing 250 men and boys as moulders and labourers. After William retired, he lived at 1 Rosslyn Terrace, Glasgow; then 12 Argyle Cresent, Portobello. Died 14 Apr 1893, 12 Argyle Cresent, Portobello, Scotland.” * Is this John McIndoe a relative of Sarah’s? Mike Boyd’s Notes: With the five year gap between when William and Sarah were married in 1847 and the birth of William [X1] in 1852, would suggest that two or three children MIHGT HAVE been born to this couple and were either stillborn or died shortly after birth. It is interesting that two of the their sons migrated to Pittsburgh, PA and Johnstown, PA. I do not know when this migration took place – but assume in the later half of the 1800’s. (So this migration path mihgt have bene followed by other Glasgow, Renfreshire and Ayrshire families into the Steel Industry in PA.) If you belong to any of these children, I would like to hear form you please. Thank you Mike Boyd
