I beg to differ. mtDNA, except in very rare instsnces, is not of genealogical value. It is of archaeological value. It will not connect you specifically to the Boyds. You need the Y - DNA test to determine the surname if the male involved in the non-paternal event. You can then progress in your research at that generation. mtDNA only mutates within every 5,000 to 10,000 years and does NOT track to surnames. Y DNA mutates within 1,000 years, and tracks to surnames.
