Dear all Re the above, I have been in touch with the family tree DNA test and explained what I am looking for. Problem is that my grandfather was illegitimate and his mother was a Helen Boyd ( his name was James Stewart Boyd) It is her side of my tree that I want to investigate more According to Family tree that cannot be done under the above test. John, You need the mtDNA test. This tests the mother line- mother of mother etc. going back from your mother. So if you had Boyd cousins testing, it could make a match possible.
