    3. >From The Hearth Tax for Ayrshire 1691, Ayrshire Records Series Volume 1, ed Robert Urquhart & Rob Close, 1998, it has under Kilmarnock “Parish of Kilmarnock - The Town John Boyd, officer (3) John Boyd, bally (6)” There was no mention of Dean Castle, although Rowallan Castle was mentioned and I have always ASSUMED that Dean Castle was being used as a military “post” – but I have never found any evidence to that effect. Do any members of this list have any information about this “John Boyd, bally” of Kilmarnock? His parents or origins and his family and any descendants? The first Earl of Kilmarnock had a son John Boyd who was baptised 5/3/1672 (Kirkintillock Parish, Dumbartonshire), so I would assume that he is not this Bailie Boyd. Because he has 6 Hearth’s I assume that this John Boyd had some wealth and is most likely a descendant of one of the earlier Lord Boyd – but which one. Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust.
