    3. Boyd grave at Larne that appears to be linked to the Penkill Boyds In the book Gravestone Inscriptions, County Antrim, Volume 4, Old Families of Larne & District from Gravestone Inscriptions, Wills and Biographical Notes, George Rutherford, (no date), page 30 it has this grave inscription:- “BOYD [Sandstone with arms:- a fess chequy, in the base a cross moline. Crest:- a hand in a benedicton couped. Motto:- confido.] Here lyeth the body of Agness Boyd who died 8th Jan. 1792 aged 75 years. Also James Boyd who departed this life 17th Jan. 1792 aged 67 years. Also Janet Boyd who died 2d Feb. 1796 aged 75 years. Also Jenny Boyd who departed this life January 3rd 1832 aged 71 years. Also Wm Nelson who departed this life March 3rd 1841 aged 82 years.” This grave’s arms are “similar” to those of the Boyds of Penkill which are:- “Az. a fesse chequy ar. and gu. in base a cross moline or. Crest - A cross moline sa. Motto - Prudentia me sustinet.” So why would this family in County Antrim have part of the Arms of the Boyds of Penkill? Could it be that there are a “missing” part of the Boyds of Penkill? >From this inscription, it would appear, that these are four “single” Boyd members, with the last – Jenny Boyd perhaps being the wife of William Nelson. a) Agness Boyd, bc 1717 (???, Ireland or Scotland), d 8/1/1792 (???, County Antrim) b) James Boyd, bc 1725 (???, Ireland or Scotland), d 17/1/1792 (???, County Antrim) c) Janet Boyd, bc 1721 (???, Ireland or Scotland),, d 2/2/1796 (???, County Antrim) d) Jenny Boyd, bc 1761 (???, Ireland or Scotland), d 3/1/1832 (????, County Antrim) – where William Nelson who died in 1841 MIGHT BE HER HUSBAND. Thank you if you can supply any additional information on these Boyd’s Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
