    3. I have these records for James Boyd of the Trochrig family who became the 11th Larid of Penkill. S1 James Boyd, eleventh Laird of Penkill, bc 1776 (Scot.?), d 17xx, m 18xx, Betty Boyd, dau of Boyd, b 17xx, d 18xx, and had no issue:- [Lived: ] - said never left America. The Boyds of Penkill and Trochrig their Ancestors and Descendants, Seymour Clarke, 1909, p 22 said he succeeded to Penkill in 1782. Then in 1792 Spencer's younger son, also Spencer, inherited the Scottish estate from his brother and decided to live there. Assume James died 1792. Directory of Scottish Settlers in North America - 1625-1825, Volume VI by David Dobson 1986: (Page 12) "Boyd, James - Probative certificate by Betty Boyd, widow of James Boyd, King and Queen County, Virginia, on the one hand, and on the other Robert Ware, Middlesex County, attorney for Spencer Boyd in Ayrshire, regarding an agreement entered into on 12 August 1796 and filed in the Chancery District Court, Williamsburg, Virginia, in a suit commenced by the said Betty Boyd against Lyne Shackleford, executor of Thomas Brown. Reference to the lands of Penkill, Ayrshire. Subscribed in Richmond, Virginia, on 26 October 1823. Witnesses Thomas C Howard, Richmond, Virginia, and John Adams, Mayor of Richmond, Virginia. (RD5.239.415)" Does anyone live near Williamsburg, Virginia to be bale to look at these records in the Chancery District Court? Or were these records destroyed during the Civil War? I would like to see what details it has on this Boyd family and what lands were part of this Estate in Ayrshire? Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
