Hi Lynne I am from Kilmarnock and Finnie is a well known name in and about the town over the passed few hundred years. I am not sure if you are aware but there is a John Finnie Street in the town. It may be worth your while contacting the Burns Monument Centre, Kilmarnock as they are the family history centre for the town. There may be a connection there, John Stewart.
