The Black Walnut plantation should be the George who married Wilmouth Irby daughter of William Irby the county commissioner for Lunenburg and charter commissioner for Halifax when it formed. He (George Boyd) was the son of Robert son of Patrick whose place was on the south side of the Dan River and went up Lawsons creek including the islands. Most of John Boyds settlement was on the North side of the river at the bend where the town of South Boston is now. The other two brothers Robert and James went a bit farther south to Granville district North Carolina. I have found James;s plantation called "Knapp of Reeds" but I am still looking for where Roberts place was in what became Granville district. It was north of Knapp of Reeds, in the county, and near the great highway which was then just a "footpath". By the time you are wanting to work out the properties (1820's) the Boyd properties were quite numerous in this area. We have to start with the greater Lunenberg county realizing that the Mecklenberg Boyd are not related so you have to sort them out here first. Then once the county divided and formed Halifax- all records after that are still extant and in Halifax courthouse. This is a doable project and I welcome the help and challenge. there are some descendants still living near South Boston who will help us, also. I am in contact with some of them. I will be traveling there (Pickens, SC; Granville, NC; Halifax co., VA) in September on my way to the AGM. It is my hope to have all of this family worked out by then so that I can gather all of the proofs. I have identified many of these earlier properties but my line was in Pickens by 1800. I would like to find every wiskey still and mill footing that this family built, and they are numerous. Barry in Dallas
