    3. Charlene If my grey cells are working, I think you told me in 2010 when I visited you that your family DNA test went back 24 generations to a common link. This would put in the time period of Sir Robert Boyd who fought with Wallace and Bruce - 1295 to 1314. Your family came from Patrick County, Virginia - if I recall correctly. I am just completting another project which has Boyds from the Fort William area of Argyllshire, WHOM are said to have gone to Ireland with Edward Bruce in 1315 and after his defeat in 1318 went to Argyllshire with the Macleans. This would make them the oldest known Cadet Branch of the Clan. They might be younger brothers to Sir Robert Boyd [D1] or even uncles to him. I have yet to learn if the Boyds and Macleans fought in the same "Division" at Bannockburn in 1314. That may explain why this group of Boyd decided to go to Argyllshire rather than back to Ayrshire. The family I have only starts in the mid 1700's. BUT this area is not the "best" farming area, so younger sons would have had to move outside of the district to find work or an occupation. So could SOME OF THIS BOYD FAMILY THAT WENT WITH THE MACLEAN's have gone to Ireland either before or after 1609 Plantation period and then in the 1700's moved to the USA, including Virginia? I AM NOT SURE HOW WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO PROVE OR DISPROVE THIS THEORY - but some of the readers of the list or those who like to use google might liek to do some searching. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
