Obviously not the same John, but perhaps related? There were several McCahertys (including John) that immigrated to St. Andrews, NB, Canada in the 1830s and at least two of them were from County Down (which is why I'm guessing he was too). I'm trying to piece together this family. I have lots of pieces and not a lot of glue. :-) Do you think there's a connection between your John and mine?
