    1. [BOYD] Boyds in the Scottish Border Region - Melrose to Kelso, etc
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. Brian Boyd of Melbourne, some years ago, gave me these details of family from the Scottish Borders WHICH I BELIEVE IS THE DIRECT TREE FOR THE JOHN BOYD THAT Yolanda Boyd gave us on 18 August 2011. S1? John Boyd, b / /1693 (Ednam, Berwick/Roxburghshire, Scotland), d / /17xx ( ), bu , m / /1723 (church, Greenlaw, Berwickshire), Margaret Redpath, dau of and (nee ) Redpath, b / /170x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] T4? George Boyd, b / /1729 (town, Berwickshire), d / /17xx ( ), bu , m 28/4/1749 (Church, Fogo, Berwickshire), Margaret Hogg, dau of and (nee ) Hogg, b / /172x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] >From the 1994 IGI for the UK:- George BOID (M)............. C: 2 Feb 1726 B: 1 Oct 1975 SLAKE Ba: C100091 Father: James BOID Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland E: 10 Nov 1975 SLAKE So: 941 Mother: Elizabeth RAITH SP: 11 Dec 1975 SLAKE Pr: 6901050 Melrose is only about 20 kms west of Kelso. This James MIGHT BE a sibling to John Boyd [S1?]/ U2 George Boyd, b 3/2/1750/1 ( ), Bapt / /175x (Earlston, Roxburghshire?), d / /1818 ( , Hull, , England), bu , m 12/10/1777 (Church, Gordon, Roxburghshire?), Elizabeth Gibson, dau of and (nee ) Gibson, b / /175x ( ), d / /1814 ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - "And their children, who were baptised at Stitchel-Hume, Scotland". On the B6364 road between Greenlaw and Kelso are two villages - one marked as Hume and the southern as Stitchell. At Hume is marked "Hume Castle" which may mean that some sort of Church may have been near by. I would assume a Presbyterian Church would be what I would look under first. V4 John Boyd, b 29/6/1783 ( ), Bapt at Stitchel-Hume, Scotland, d / /18xx ( ), bu , m ? While Yolanda Boyd - IN HER POST OF 18 AUGUST 2011 - has given us these details for WHAT I THINK IS THE ABOVE JOHN BOYD:- V4 John Boyd, b / /1783 (Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland), d 16/4/1847 (Westruther, Berwickshire), bu , m / /181x (church, town, county, etc), Elizabeth Tait, dau of and (nee ) Tait, b / /1788 (town, county, etc), d 23/9/1861 (Westruther?, Berwickshire), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Details? John is listed as a Tailor on his children's birth records until 1829 when he became Tenant farmer at Broomybank. [Who was he a tenant off?] You will notice the "MIGRATION PATH" of this family 1. 1693, Ednam; 2. 1723, Greenlaw; 3. 1726, Melrose; 4. 1749 , Fogo; 5. 1750/1, Earlston; 6. 1777, Gordon; 7. 1783, Stitchel-Hume or Lauder All of these places are within an area from area of Melrose to Kelso and about 15 kms north of those two towns. So if you Boyd family comes from this area, the list would like to hear from you about the origins of your Boyd family. I am interested in finding "siblings" to those in this direct tree from John Boyd [S1?] to John boyd [V4]. Thank you Mike Boyd HIstorical Committee, HBS
