John Can you do a "direct" line back in your family - with or without dates and locations - back as far as you know. In recent years, I have learnt that first Lord Robert Boyd went to live at Alnwick in 1469. And it would appear that Adam Boyd, who is said to have been his youngest son of 9 years also went to live with him and then later moved onto the Leeds area of Yorkshire. Some of this Adam Boyd ancestors are listed but it is not known who many stayed in hte 6 nortehrn Counties of England It is not known if any of children, cousin or relatives also followed him to Alnwick in 1469. While there is a second possible area of migration. This is from the Scottish Borders area - Berwickshire and the Melrose/Kelso area. Some of these familues also appear to have come from Northumberland, England, so there might be some members of this list that can link to your early generations if you might know what yor fmaily "folklore" might be - ie where they were suppose to have come from, etc Thirdly, some others may have come from Scotland and /or Ireland to be part of the Industrial revolution.
