    3. John You had to pick the worst name to start your family with - John Boyd. I think this is the start of your family:- U1? If I recall correctly, your John Boyd was "involved" with cotton or Linen Industry. So does this mean that he may have come from another area of Ireland to Payntzpass? 3. Thanks, Mike. You wrote "You had to pick the worst name to start your family with - John Boyd. I think this is the start of your family:- U1? There seems to have been John Boyds in every generation of my family. In any case, you have correctly identified the start of my Boyd line. It goes from the John Boyd that you identified through his son John who was born in Poyntzpass around 1803 and appears to have emigrated sometime in the mid-1830s. He had a daughter or two who appear to have been born in Ireland, a son John born in New York and a son James born in Canada. There was at least one other daughter. James was by 2g-grandfather. The son John who was born in New York spent all of his adult life in Troy, NY., where he worked as a harness maker. Son James was born near Guelph Ontario but he appears to have had a restless spirit in his younger days. He married in Macon GA just before the outbreak of the Civil War. By the end of the 1860s, he was back in Canada where he worked in various locations as a mechanic, sawmill owner and farmer. One of John's daughters was Sarah. She was born either in Ireland or Canada. She married a man named Langley who left her a widow at an early age. Her daughter Mary married a McLaughlin who also left her a young widow. In 1880, Sarah Langley, her father John Boyd and Mary McLaughlin and children were all living together in Troy, NY. John's daughter Elizabeth married an Enoch Copley. They lived for a time in Dundas Ontario and then in Troy NY. I believe that John also had a daughter Margaret who may have married a man named Harris but I can learn nothing about her. I have reasonable files on the movements and children of the rest. My 3g-grandfather John Boyd died in Troy NY in 1881. He had a brother (Isaac) who lived in Albany, NY and another brother (James) who remained in Ireland. He also had a sister (Elizabeth)who married a Heslip in Ireland and ended up in Minnesota and another sister (Jane) who married a Little in Ireland and ended up sheep farming in Australia. I was told that the brother James who stayed in Ireland had some connection with Antrim - either he or one of his sons left Poyntzpass and moved there. Perhaps he was connected to the Joseph in your other post, although I have not heard of a Joseph Boyd connected to this family. Cheers John Carey
