Hello List, Because I've seen this list be very helpful to folks, I thought I'd ask this question to all of you. On a 1910 US Federal census record for New York it lists the person's birthplace as - "Ire. English." I'm sure this means Ireland, but why did they put "English?" Thanks in advance, Barb
Hi Barb: Without seeing the document, my educated guess would be that the reference is to the language they speak: English and that they were from Ireland. Is there a separate entry for language? Was this an "original" image you are looking at or a transcription? Yours Aye, Lauren
