Hi Mike, In order to eliminate possible relations, we have been putting together other family units in the Borders region of Scotland and England based on the records we have found. We have not found a relation to this family yet, but think that there is a strong possibility for connecting at some point as they are living in the same very small towns as our line. We have not really delved into this family at this point, so I am sure that there is much to be added for someone who is interested. Below is a summary of the family which connects to the line that Brian Boyd has researched. This is for John Boyd, b. 1783 in Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland, son of George Boyd and Elizabeth Gibson. Yolanda, I am confused by the organization of the list of descendants you have below. Or, are these just listings of separate families that you have accumulated, without knowing what the specific connection is for each family? Hi Barabara, This isn't actually my Boyd line, but I have looked at the records for this area quite a bit in an effort to figure out our Boyd line. Elizabeth Tait's parents are Gavin Tait and Isabella Fairburn, who are of the right age to be siblings or cousins to your Taits and Fairburns. I have the parents of Gavin Tait, but may be missing some of his siblings as the first child was born 8 years into the marriage. I don't see any obvious connections right now, but maybe you can make some sense of it. I think that we would need to go back another generation to determine if they are related to your ancestors. Do any members of the list descend from these two daughters? And does anyone know if there were more children born to Robert Boyd and Jane Gray. If so, could you please tell the list Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yolanda Boyd" <ymlboyd@sbcglobal.net> To: <boyd@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 18, 2011 11:21 PM Subject: [BOYD] John Boyd's family of Westruther,Berwick Scotland connected to John Boyd / Margaret Redpath > Hi Mike, > > In order to eliminate possible relations, we have been putting together > other family units in the Borders region of Scotland and England based on > the records we have found. Do any members of this list stem from daughter of Elizabeth and Peter? It would APPEAR that their daughter was called Euphemia Boyd Donaldson? Have I got that right. Again it would appear that other children were born to this could whom we have not discovered. So does anyone know of any other children? Hi Mike, The following are the 1851 and 1861 census records for Peter Donaldson and Elizabeth Boyd of Westruther, daughter of John Boyd and Elizabeth Tait. I have not had time to look for IGI records and must set aside the genealogy research as I have a busy day ahead of me. But, the census does show that they had many children. Yolanda Boyd I find it interesting that Peter Donaldson is working as a tollkeeper at the same place as his brother in law Robert Boyd (m. to Jane Gray) and they all live in Legerwood. 1851 Census From: Mike Boyd <mikejboyd@bigpond.com> To: boyd@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2011 10:26 PM Subject: Re: [BOYD] John Boyd's family of Westruther, Berwick Scotland connected to Elizabeth Boyd and Peter Donaldson Do any members of this list stem from daughter of Elizabeth and Peter? Peter is working as a grocer, which he could have taken over from his brother in law, Gavin Boyd. Gavin was a grocer in this area in the 1851 census and then possibly emigrated to Canada by the 1861 census. Westruther only had a few hundred people living there, so I don't know how many grocers they would need. 1861 Census County Name Berwickshire Parish Name Westruther Town/Village Houndslow Address Rooms with Windows 5 Children attending School 3 Enumeration District 2 Enumeration Page 1 Schedule Number 1 Name Relationship Condition Age Sex Occupation Birthplace Peter Donaldson Head Married 37 M Grocer Berwick, Westruther Elizabeth Donaldson Wife Married 38 F Berwick, Westruther James Donaldson Son Unmarried 15 M Ag Lab Berwick, Westruther Elizabeth Donaldson Daughter 12 F Scholar Berwick, Westruther Euphemia Donaldson Daughter 10 F Scholar Berwick, Westruther John Donaldson Son 7 M Scholar Berwick, Westruther Peter Donaldson Son 4 M Berwick, Longformacus Margaret Donaldson Daughter 2 F Berwick, Westruther
