I don't know if Robert of S.C. and Virginia was connected to the Newberry, S.C. Boyds or not. More interesting to me, however, is the reference by Col. Bratton in 1783 calling him "Sir Robert Boid." Although they acquired a large amount of land and in two or three generations produced several notable citizens, the first couple of Boyd generations in Newberry would appear to be mostly yeomen, with names like "Waggoner Jack" Boyd (the wheelwright) and "Johnny Buckles" Boyd (the harness maker).
