Hi all, We're in Alabama and will be in the Huntsville area for about 3 days; after that we're heading for Abbeville, SC where my earliest Boyd lived in the late 1700s. Anybody around that area know what might be available in local historical societies and/or libraries? Just in case, you can contact me offline...thanks! Hi Darlene, years ago I tried to do some research in SC but everywhere I looked for a research library, I found nothing. I think you might have to visit the SC Archives in Columbia, SC to find information. I never looked in Abbeville, but checked Charleston, SC many times, including the churches. It seems that one of the speakers at a conference I attended (many years ago), gave out sheets that gave all the places in SC to research but I have long ago forgotten where those places are. Have you tried looking online at Heritage Quest for census images that might help you locate the area where your ancestor lived? wish I could give you a better answer, but frankly I was disappointed in my research in SC. Maybe things have changed and you can find something, but years ago I found nothing helpful.
