Boyd was interested in data on the Acadians and Planters of Nova Scotia and other Maritime Provinces. As some people know, the "Expulsion of the Acadians " from Horton Landing in "Gran Pre" area of Nova Scotia happened 256 years ago. In 1755, Boat loads of Acadian men, women and children were deported and shipped off to other lands...some to England, France, and most to the original colonies in the USA. This order came from the English Government. An "Iron Deportation Cross" was erected on the site of Horton Landing where the ships departed. Later the English Government invited a group of people to come to Nova Scotia and take over the "agricultural lands" left vacant by the deported Acadians. This Group of People, who came mostly from New England States in USA were called "The PLANTERS." Later in History, the LOYALIST came to the Maritimes about 1783. There is an Acadian Museum, at Gran Pre that houses the History a film on the Acadians and A Chapel in Memorium of the Acadians is located on the grounds. There are brass plaques in the Chapel with the surnames of the deported Acadians. I don't know whether you would like to send this information to the BOYD List. On Thursday, 28 July 2011 it is this location that will be the site of a "reconciliation" ceremony that bridges 256 years of History. The Old Covenanter Church in Grand Pre is mentioned as well in an article today in ":The Chronicle Herald" the Provincial Halifax Newspaper that is featuring this story. The Headline reads "Deportation Cross to Signal harmony." GOOGLE May have more information for you.?? There are many books on the History of Acadians. In Florida, I have the Planters book and the Loyalists book written by Esther CLARK WRIGHT. Many local people some descended from the "Planters" and Ulster Protestant families.
