The e-mail I received from Ancestry said nothing about free, only the SAR applications being available for the 4th of July weekend. If you have an account you can look and attach the record to your Ancestry tree but you cannot print it or download it to your computer. I tried. Many of the applications reference DAR member applications. DAR has a free site for searches at http://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search/?Tab_ID=1&Tab_ID_Sub=1&Ac tion=Search You used to have to fill out a written request for information. Not all generations are shown but you can purchase a PDF copy of the application on the site for a nominal fee.
