Last year when I was in Scotland I found the book Papers Relating to the Army of the Solemn League and Covenant, 1643-1647, which said under the Tweeddale Regiment, whose Colonel was the Earl of Buccleuch (from the Scott family),it lists under Lieutenants, 1644 Adam Boyd. It said the regiment was engaged at Marston Moor and the sieges of York and Newcastle 1644; Hereford 1645. So I assume that this was part of the Scots Army supporting the King against Cromwell. So could this Lt Adam Boyd have become Captain Adam Boyd in Ireland - whom I think is said to have died in 1649. The Tweeddale area would be around Melrose and the Tweed River area of the Borders. This is one of about 8 areas where Boyd families can be found. So MY GUESS IS THAT THIS LT. ADAM BOYD CAME FROM THIS LOCATION. Question is - could he be the same person who later became Capt Adam Boyd of Ireland and was the great grandfather of the Rev Adam Boyd of Chester Co., PA? This may give members of Capt Adam Boyd's family/descendants a new area to research. If you are going to do some research on this aspect please let the list know.
