During my trip to Ireland in 2010, I found this early reference to a Boyd in Armagh City, County Armagh. In the survey of 1618 it shows:- "Dermon Boy (name incomplete) holds two little houses, and gardens rent per annum 13 shillings and 4 pence." I am assuming that his name was Dermon Boyd. From the reference of two "little houses", I would assume that he was not very rich. However, it does point that Boyds were in the County of Armagh from an early period of the Plantation of Ireland. This County has not had much attention paid to it, so it could be another County that members may need to look at in Ireland when all they have is that their family came from Ireland or Ulster. Please let me know if you do trace you families back to this County. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
