Mike is quite well and dry with a roof over his head. The Cyclone, which was a Force 5 - the same that hit New Orleans - was about 1700 kms north of Brisbane (and I think there is still another 700 or 800 kms before you get to Cape York at the tip of Queensland). I am not sure how that relates to distances in the USA or other places. The said it was about 1000 kms wide and there was a 4 or 6 metre tidal surge that come with it on the southern side. It hit a small farming area between Cairns and Townsville, so not too many houses & builds were damaged. I think one person died from the fumes of his generator in a closed room the night the cyclone passed over. 2 nights ago, the TV News showed people back on the Barrier Reef, but I did not catch were that was. Cairns and Port Douglas - our main north Queensland tourist areas - will be back in operation. Bit some of the tourist Island between Cairns and Townsville, will have to be rebuilt. Last night, they showed some dairy cows on a tableland behind Cairns, where the cows have now gone into shock form the 250 kms per hour winds and they are producing curdled milk which the farmers were having to pour down the drain. I know that some distant parts of my own family live in this area and also around Tully which was the main town that was struck. No I have been busy Indexing some of the folders of material that I collected on my 2010 trip, so I know what material I have. I will then have to go back through these papers so I can determine if I already have known families for these people or need to start up new family chapters. If my estimate is right - I collected 500 plus new Boyd families - I will fill up 10 new Volumes this year alone from last years trip.
