This is the second Boyd family that I have for Wstmoreland Co., PA:- (ii) 5/278 BOYD OF , WESTMORELAND Co., PA (formerly Co., TYRONE, IRE) The origins of this family is from County Tyrone, Ireland prior to 1771. Lynn also advised that the family had been traced back to Scotland by [PUT IN DETAILS] who is now dead. It is not know where is research is now on this aspect. He went over to Ireland and traced James back to Scotland. Lynn is not aware of how this was done. During James and Bridget's stay in Derry township, Westmoreland Co., PA from about 1804 to 1810 they lived with John and Mary (nee Fulton) Boyd (see ch 4/244) of whom the following book has been written [GET DETAILS FROM BOOKLIST]. John and Mary came from Coleraine, Co. Londonderry, Ireland. [WHY WOULD SOMEONE FROM Co. TYRONE, STAY WITH SOMEONE FROM Co. LONDONDERRY - WHAT IS THE LINK?] This John could be a close relative - elder brother, or cousin etc. Lynn said that a Margaret Dequine, 2244 Belsera Drive, Oakdale California 95361 USA is doing research into this family. [NEED TO CONTACT HER] I would assume at this point that as James emigrated to America he was not the oldest son of his father. R? James Boyd bc /2/1771 ( , Co. Ohio, m / /179x ( , , Ireland), Bridget Reed Forster, dau of and (nee ) Forster, b / /1782 ( , Ireland), d 30/1/1875 ( , Ohio?), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: , Co., Ohio USA ] - They emigrated to America sometime after 1803. They came from Ireland with two children. They lived with a John and Mary (nee Fulton) Boyd (see Chapter 4/244) and then moved to Tuscarawas County Ohio in 1810. James was the Justice of the Peace in 1822 and Union Township Magistrate in 1833. He also built and ran the Black Horse tavern which was located on the New Philadelphia Road and the Cadiz. There is alot of history that goes along with the tavern. There was a double murder there. Also James fought in the war of 1812. He also bought substantial amounts of land in Tuscarawas, Allen and Auglaize Counties. They were pioneers in Ohio by being original landowners in Tuscarawas and Allen counties. James had five original land grants or patents in Ohio. The first was for 80 acres in Tuscarawas county, Mill Township, dated 25 September 1821. However according to Beer's history of that county [NEED FULL TITLE], James was amongst the first settlers who arrived between 1808 and 1812. The Tuscarawas county recorder has 14 land transactions lister between 1820 and 1836 for James and Bridget Boyd. In Allen county they purchased four quarter sections of 40 to 80 acres each. The date of all these transactions were all 16 January 1836. The Allen county Recorder has not been asked to list all of James and Brdiget's land transactions, but it is assumed to be considerable since his four land grants are in three different sections indicating that he may have bought it for trading stock. >From his land deals in these two counties, selling in Tuscarawas and buying in Allen, James and bridget are assumed to have moved to Allen County in about 1836. By the spread of the children I would expect that perhaps at least two additional children were born to James and Bridget - one perhaps in 1802 and a second in 1806. >From the 1994 IGI for the UK it has this entry:- James BOYD (M).................. B: Feb 1771 B: Cleared Ba: 5009320 5 Spouse: Bridget Reed FORSTER , Tyrone, Ireland E: Cleared So: 1553414 ?From the way that this Batch number is writen, it normally means that the researcher did not know this John Boyd's parents. It would also be interesting to know why a County Tyrone Boyd family came to live with Boyds form the Coleraine area of Couty Londonderry. Did these Boyd sponsor John and Bridget Boyd's family? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee PS I have an third Boyd family in Chap 6/307 but I can't put my hands on that folder at present. So I will search for it when I return from the USA and New Zealand.
