The reformation of the Church of Scotland followed in the tradition blazed by John Calvin in Geneva. Whereas Luther was the founder of the "Lutheran" tradition, John Calvin, with a few others, was the founder of the movement known as the "Reformed" tradition. Calvin took Luther's reforms and took them to the next step, which included a church polity that was representative and the people elected their leaders (deacons and presbyters).
