    1. Re: [BOYD] Joseph Boyd of Bucks Co., b 1740
    2. Need to make something clear. This JOSEPH BOYD of Bucks County was living in modern day Bucks County. We have him in lower Bucks as I recall. Bucks is not like Chester County. It only went north into Northampton County (modern). We have not found anyone connected to Joseph. In that document he states that his father was Joseph Boyd born in Bucks Co Pa in 1740. They were living in Surry Co, NC at the time of the Rev. War, Joseph (his father) was beaten up by the Tories (English) and could not join the militia that was forming to fight, so James at age 14 joined in his fathers place. My thinking on that is that he was the oldest son. Some of his exploits are mentioned in the history books, he's pretty well known around those parts." So are there any Boyd or Boyd researchers in Bucks County, PA or near by, whom maybe able to join this group researching this group of Boyd families form Patrick County, VA? This Joseph Boyd family from "Bucks" County of 1740 would be much larger than the present day Bucks Co. So they may have lived in one of the other Counties cut of from Bucks Co. I am not sure if there are old birth records for Bucks Country in the 1740's or earlier, that may help discover more about this family family. So some time before 1776, this family has moved from Bucks Co., PA to Surry Co., NC where Joseph's son James Boyd, aged 14 years when he joined in his father place. Then by 1798 they are on Tax records for Patrick County, VA - only about 30-45 miles from their home in Surry Co., NC. So this is where many of our current researcher pick up this family.
